IFM Institute of International Football Management


The IFM Institute of International Football Management is dedicated to topics related to the different areas of management in the football industry. Our goal is to support management practice through qualitative as well as quantitative studies.


The IFM is an academic partner of practice in sports and football management. We support and advise clubs, associations, companies or individual athletes on the basis of profound research and theoretical knowledge.
In the field of research-based consulting for sports and football players, our main focus is on strategic communication and brand management. From a well-founded analysis, we work together with our partners to develop concepts and measures for the challenges of communication management.

The IFM focuses on the current challenges in sports and football management. We operate both qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as contract research. In our research, we are dedicated to the bachelor and master students of Campus M21 as well as the master students of the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences.

The IFM is the academic backbone of the sports management courses offered at Campus M21, especially in the field of sports and football. The institute’s cooperation with renowned practice partners, as well as fundamental theoretical reflections, forms the foundation of these innovative study offers.
Within basic research as well as contract research for our partners, we provide our students with topics for bachelor’s and master's degree programs.

We work on various research and consulting projects in football and sports business with our bachelor and master students. These are our current projects:

Adidas In cooperation with two master students of the Hochschule Mittweida, we deal with the topic: Future Olympic Games: Why do the applications of cities and regions fail?
Together with our partner magazine "Stadionwelt Inside" we carried out a first empirical study.

Adidas In cooperation with bachelor and master students from the various fields of sports studies in Munich and Nuremberg, we are currently preparing several media resonance analyses for clubs of the first and second German football leagues. A media resonance analysis serves as an instrument for the assessment of communication measures, whereby media reports are collected and analysed according to a specific category system. This analysis can then be used to derive recommendations for the communication of the associations (cf. Grupe, Stephanie: Public Relations. Ein Wegweiser für die PR-Praxis. Frankfurt am Main. Springer Verlag. 2011).
